"The animals you say were ‘sent’ For man’s free use and nutriment. Pray, then, inform me, and be candid Why came they aeons before Man did, To spend long centuries on earth Awaiting their devourer’s birth? Those ill-timed chattels, sent from heaven, Were, sure, the maddest gift e’er given – ‘sent’ for man’s use (can man believe it?) when there was no man to receive it!" Henry S. Salt 1851 – 1939
African Vegan Outreach

African Vegan Outreach, affiliated to BWC, is a non profit organisation bringing the Vegan message of compassion and non violence to our audience. We are a fact based organisation focussing on the reduction of suffering of animals by highlighting the reality in South Africa and the African continent, and working towards positive change. We educate people on the benefits of a plant-based diet for humans, animals and the planet.

Sep 15 2014 Alain Ducasse, famous worldwide for his phenomenal haute cuisine, has more Michelin stars than any chef alive today. When a legendary French master chef decides
it’s time to drop meat from his menu, foodies of the world pay attention.

Veganism is not just a diet or a label. Veganism is the principle that human-animals should live without exploiting other-animals. Animal exploitation is all around us and in almost every aspect of our lives, whether it be the clothes we wear, the personal cosmetics we use, or the “entertainment” we choose to frequent. The majority of information on this website is related to farmed animals who are brought into this world for the purpose of being consumed as food. These intelligent individuals account for 99% of all other-animals raised and exploited for human use.

This is why it is imperative to make a commitment to align your life with the vegan principle of non-exploitation. Please work to remove your support from oppressive practices, overcome your own prejudices, and spread these ideals and practices to the people around you.

To be €œvegan is both to have the goal of liberation for all beings and to dedicate oneself to achieving that goal - even if it seems idealistic or far off. Please click on the links below and learn about the plight of other-animal victims who are seen as nothing more than commodities and why a true abolitionist movement is necessary to break the chains of slavery.

Plant was established in 2013 to promote plant-based food choices and to provide a space in Cape Town where vegans and people with food allergies can find amazing food without sacrificing taste.

Our objective is to supply clean, healthy nutrition optimized for today’s fast paced life style.  We pride ourselves on exemplary service and customer satisfaction is our primary objective.

Education about the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle is a part of ongoing commitment to make this world a little better, a little kinder.  A percentage of our profits is donated to human-based or animal-based charities.

We recommend a power blender for smoothies and cheese recipes.  Ordinary store bought blenders tend to burn out after a few uses.  Invest in one of these - they will change your life.

Green smoothie
A great, healthy way to start your day is by blending your vegetables and fruit in to a green smoothie.  Remember, it takes 21 days for your body to detoxify from all animal proteins.  Just keep going and we can guarantee you, after 21 days you’ll feel like a new person.  A lot of people say they don’t like the taste of fruit and vegetables.  The reason for this is that animal protein is basically an addiction.  Your taste is a little warped but with time it will return to normal.  Just go through the motions. Fruit and vegetables will taste amazing!

Fruit and veggies first thing in the morning create an alkaline environment in your body.  Disease develops in an acidic environment so you can say goodbye to colds and flu if you keep your body fueled with healthy food.

You can use a combination of fruit and vegetables:

  • 1 Cup raw spinach (or other greens) Kale is an amazing green but not always readily available
  • 2 Bananas
  • ½ Cup Blueberries (you can get these frozen if not in season)
  • Raw Vegan Protein powder, green minerals , hemp powder (awesome complete vegan protein) or any other supplement.  (Whey protein is protein derived from milk products so look for vegan protein.  You are on your way to building your new super body and need the good stuff!!)
  • Any seasonal fruit
  • A little bit of filtered water
Blend together and enjoy!

But I can’t live without cheese!
Don’t worry, you don’t have to. More and more non-dairy cheeses are making their way in to our markets and you can find these at any major grocery store like Pick & Pay or Checkers.

Our favourite is home-made nut cheese!
Here is an easy cheese recipe that is healthy, nutritious and oh so yummy!
1 Cup Macadamia Nuts (Raw)

1/2 Cup Water

1Tsp Agave Nectar

1Tsp Lemon Juice

Salt to taste (we use Himalayan Salt)

Blend together in Power Blender and you have a creamy cheese that's perfect for pizzas, toast, soups, etc
