In a heart-warming gathering that bridged generations and celebrated the enduring legacy of animal advocacy, 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐲 (𝐁𝐖𝐂) hosted a special lunch at 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐟𝐞 in 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚. This unique event brought together the past, present, and future leaders of the organization, symbolizing a continuity of compassion and commitment that has defined BWC for over five decades.
The Past: Beryl, the Trailblazer
All the way from her new home in England, 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐥, one of South Africa’s earliest BWC members and longest standing chairperson, graced us with her presence. Beryl’s pioneering spirit and unwavering dedication to animal rights laid the foundation for what BWC is today. Her journey is a testament to the power of conviction and the impact one individual can make in the world. Beryl’s visit, after leaving SA a year ago, was especially poignant as she took time from her stay in Cape Town, where she was visiting her sister in the hospital. We extend our heartfelt wishes for her sister’s speedy recovery.
The Present: Toni Brockhoven, the Champion
𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐢, the outgoing executive officer of BWC (staying on as chairperson), embodies the relentless pursuit of justice for all creatures. Her leadership has steered BWC through numerous campaigns and initiatives, consistently advocating for a cruelty-free world. Toni’s insights during our lunch reflected her deep understanding of the challenges ahead and her strategic vision for overcoming them. Her commitment serves as a beacon of hope and resilience for the entire team.
“I found Beryl to have very big shoes to fill, and I hope that I have done her and Beauty Without Cruelty justice. I have every faith in the next generation, and in Chad, in going ahead and continuing the work, ensuring success for the benefit of our animal brethren,” said Toni.
