Our Humane Guide lists 160+ brands across 23 product categories, the trusted reference for South African consumers choosing cruelty-free. Every listing is audited against Beauty Without Cruelty’s requirements on animal testing and reviewed annually.
Not every listing carries the same status, and the guide says so plainly. Brands accredited by BWC before 2018 may include vegetarian products that were accredited under the requirements applicable at the time. Since 2018, companies that are not 100% plant-based may apply for verification of their animal-testing practices; those companies receive a Certificate of Animal-Free Testing Compliance, are not permitted to use the BWC logo, and are not listed on the Humane Guide.
The total moves as brands join and lapse, which is why the guide states 160+ rather than a fixed number.
